ABOUT.
Outspoken and stubborn; they typically have a frown on their face. They spent most of their life sharing a body with their "twin" — if you imagine Matryoshka dolls, they were the smaller one on the inside. Due to this, they're inwardly longing to make close relationships that are solely their own. They're pragmatic and worry easily about others, though they hate to seem soft and prefer to act strict. They show their care in a "tough love" kind of way.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS.
Visual. Distinctly Not Human. Extremely pale "skin," which is actually a fine powdered dusted over their body. Crystalline hair and eyes, in a pale quartz color.
Demeanor. Very tense, kind of a nag, always wanting to do something productive. Extremely blunt. Cares a lot, but hates if you point it out.
PERMISSIONS.
Backtagging. of course! i can take a few days between tags so i have no problem waiting.
Canon Point + Spoilers. i typically take them from around chapter 60, and will avoid alluding to things past that point!! they have severe spoilers for houseki no kuni associated with them, and also a ton of triggering material in their character arc past that point. i'm open to exploring post chapter 68 stuff if discussed with a canon familiar player though!
Shipping. i prefer canonmates for this! phos or lapis mostly 😔
THE LUSTROUS.
The Lustrous (colloquially referred to as "gems") are otherworldly humanoid beings who are made of crystal. They are named for what crystal they're made of - in Cairngorm's case, they're made of a kind of smoky quartz. Lustrous are immortal, and cannot feel pain nor temperature. If they are damaged, they can easily be repaired with a special glue - limbs can be reattached, etc. Lustrous get all their necessary sustenance from sunlight, and grow tired when it becomes dark. As such, most of their kind must hibernate during winter.
Their kind lives in a society where there is little semblance to what humans would find normal. Gems have no concept of gender in their society, and lack knowledge of many major concepts such as money, laws, or technology more advanced than simple woodwork and weaving. This is because their society is extremely small and utilitarian; there's simply no need for complicated concepts such as money or advanced technology to exist or eventually develop in their society, as they live communally and need very little to survive.
Gems have only one natural enemy; their moon hosts a species called "Lunarians" who regularly abduct Lustrous from their home planet. The general assumption by gems is that this is done to fashion gems into jewelry.

LUPIN An annoying self-proclaimed thief. Lupin is a strange individual, one that they never know what to expect from, but he undoubtedly has many fascinating things to say, as well as the patience to teach them. It's unclear to them whether his curiosity has to do with his gem-stealing occupation or otherwise, but nonetheless, as aggravating as his personality is, they find his persistent interest in them more reassuring than they'd like to admit. |
CARAMIA A "lion" from a land very different from their own. His curiosity combined with his helpful attitude in teaching them about the world is something more appreciated than they show. Its a little ironic that he seems so worried about their fragility, so they do wish he'd hold off about that... Overall, his overly affectionate behavior weirds them out, but it seems like he means no harm, so they can't harbor genuine distaste. |
DEXTERA A reckless idiot. His lack of care for his own well-being really stresses them out. It's bewildering watching beings so much more fleeting than themself be so reckless, and through Dextera, Cairngorm has a new perspective on the fragility of other forms of life. They can see he has a kind heart, and incredible abilities, but they also think he puts both to waste by always risking his life thoughtlessly. |
IZUKU A kind and reliable human boy. He seems very intelligent and capable for his extremely young age, which admittedly impresses them quite a bit. They're of the opinion someone like him is necessary to society, so they find it a shame that someone so competent will only be able to live for such a relatively short time. |
GUREN Some semblance of a leader-type. They're not sure if they really respect him or not yet, but they do acknowledge that he seems to have experience. They can't help but wonder what his life is like to make him accustomed to this sort of thing, as it seems he comes from a land filled with war, much like themself. Because of that, they speculate that they actually have quite a bit in common. |
CROWLEY A fellow immortal. Normally, they'd see it as some sort of kinship between them, but Crowley's personality is too annoying for Cairngorm to see him as much else than a nuisance. Learning about him only adds to how grateful they are that they aren't a human, because the idea of being something else's food is way too gross for them to fathom. |
MARIBELLE An outspoken and haughty girl. Their personalities clash quite a bit given Cairngorm's flippant attitude, so they've more or less pegged her as someone who has a penchant for nagging. As for now, their opinion of her is in the middle of the road, since they appreciate her contributions to order, but some of her actions get on their nerves. |
HUNK A space-faring human. Cairngorm is someone who holds more respect for intellectuals, and his apparent knowledge about space not only draws their attention but also is great for cultivating a sense of trust in him. They'd really like to talk to him more about space if they can, when they find the time for it. |

PHOSPHOPHYLLITE ✤✤●●● Partner, and self-proclaimed "best-friend." Their relationship is convoluted and weighed down heavily on both sides by images from each of their pasts. They're fiercely protective of and loyal to Phos; they tend to give in easily to their antics despite how harsh they act towards them. Both parties are hiding unsavory secrets from one another, but in the end, Cairngorm is willing to do anything for them. Anything at all. |
LOTTIE ●● Human housemate, with little to no applicable skills. She comes off as a freeloader to them, and dabbles too much in the frivolous art of fashion for their taste. However, she tries to be patient with their ignorance (sometimes), and offers her hand with their repairs and powdering - so their respect for her is growing slowly, as is their obligation to keep her safe. They don't mind it when she calls them cute. |

LUPIN ❤✤✧ Famous thief, who they met upon arrival. For acknowledging them as they are and assuring them confidently of their worth like no one has before him, he's won a deep sense of affection and gratitude from them, regardless of how little they show it. Things are complicated because he's mortal and they're not, but they've ultimately agreed to pair up with him, accept his affections, and try to savor the time they have left together. |
DEXTERA ●●✧✓ Stupidly reckless, but selflessly kind man. He has incredible abilities, which they believe go to waste considering his occasionally irresponsible behavior. Between them is a kinship that they share with no one else; the emotional effects of sharing a body with a sibling bring the two to similar ground despite their polar opposite natures. Because of this, they feel he understands a part of them that they don't often share. |
MAYA ●✧ Eccentric "journalist." She tries to explain the world to them with an upbeat and abstract attitude, often confusing them as a result. Despite this, they like her to a degree; she's demonstrated cleverness and strength to them, and as such, they respect her a good amount. |
MINATO ⊗●✓ Quiet and contemplative boy. Their talks about mortality with him strike them as peculiar, and they find his thoughts different from how most humans think. He seems almost too agreeable, in their opinion, and they are convinced he must feel much more than he lets on. They're actually similar to him in that way, though they wouldn't admit it to him. |
CONNOR ●●✓？ Android, who claims to have been built by humans as a tool. Ironically enough, they learn more from him about mortality and humans than they do from most people. He works efficiently, gives them straight answers, and understands what it’s like to be living as a non-human - so they get along surprisingly well with him, and find little reason to give him their typical harsh attitude. |
GIORNO ⊗●✧？ Strange boy, with even stranger powers. Ever since seeing a glimpse into his home life, they’re slightly concerned for him - he doesn’t exactly seem the type that should be involved in a life so dangerous. They understand almost nothing about him, other than that he has a kind heart and is mature beyond his young age. He’s extremely useful for learning about animals. |
TSUMUGI ⊗○ Extremely weird “co-librarian.” If they’re being honest, they’re slightly irked that he spends so much time in the library himself outside of just going there to read - and he does seem weirdly okay with the situation at hand. It’s nice to have someone else in the library helping them organize, but it'll take time to get accustomed to his unusual demeanor. |

They've yet to see any of her capabilities, so they have to assume she's either acting more capable than she is, or is hiding some useful ability.
